KUWAIT CITY, March 3: Kuwait Club’s Moroccan star Mahdi Berhama and Ivorian midfielder Idrissa Doumbia are fully fit and ready to rejoin the team whenever sports activities resume.
Kuwait Club was originally scheduled to travel to Muscat, Oman, last Sunday to prepare for its quarter-final clash against Al-Shabab, which was set for Wednesday in the Asian Challenge League. However, ongoing regional tensions and the suspension of sports activities in Kuwait since last Saturday have cast doubt over the match, now scheduled for March 11.
Meanwhile, Qadsia SC was set to host Qatar’s Al-Rayyan on March 4 and 11 in the Gulf Champions League semi-finals, but its fixtures have also been affected.
Berhama and Doumbia had missed recent games after sustaining injuries in Kuwait Club’s preliminary-round Amir Cup match against Al-Jazeera in February. They sat out the 14th round Zain Premier League match against Al-Shabab, as well as the Amir Cup quarter-final clash with Al-Nasr.
Several other key players, including Mishari Ghanem, Ibrahim Kamil, Mohsen Falah, Khaled Al-Kharqawi, and Ahmed Alaa, have also been sidelined due to injuries in recent weeks.
Kuwait Club aims to utilize the current break to fully prepare its squad for the remaining season. The team currently leads the Zain Premier League with 36 points, 12 points ahead of its closest rival, with nine rounds to go. They have also secured a place in the Crown Prince Cup final, the Amir Cup semi-finals, and continue to compete in the Asian Challenge League.
Al-Qadsia’s Algerian defender Sofiane Boushar is nearing a return after completing rehabilitation for a thigh muscle strain. Boushar left the pitch in the 4th minute of Qadsia’s postponed preliminary-round Amir Cup match against Burgan last Friday but is now ready to rejoin the team.
