KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: Kuwait Club maintained its grip on the top spot in the Zain Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win over Al-Nasr at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium in the seventh round. Yassin Al-Khunaisi scored the only goal in first-half stoppage time.
The victory takes Kuwait Club to 16 points, while Al-Nasr remains at the bottom of the table without a point.
Al-Arabi continued its chase of the leader with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Al-Jahra at Mohamed Al-Hamad Stadium, keeping the two-point gap with Kuwait Club intact. Both teams still have a postponed match to play.
Al-Qadsia dropped to third with 11 points, level on goal difference with Al-Salmiya and Kazma. Al-Shabab is sixth with nine points, Al-Fahaheel seventh with seven points, Al-Jahra eighth on goal difference, Al-Tadamon ninth with four points, and Al-Nasr remains last with zero points.
Kuwait Club coach Nebojsa Jovovic admitted the match was tough due to his team playing four games in 11 days, which caused fatigue and minor injuries. “Playing multiple matches in a short span can affect any team’s performance, but our priority was to secure the three points,” he said.
Jovovic added that Kuwait Club controlled the game from the start and will now focus on preparing for Sunday’s clash against unbeaten Kazma in the eighth round.
The league’s eighth round will be played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, before the season pauses until December for international matches and the Arab Cup in Doha, Qatar.
