KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: Kuwait Club will be aiming to get its AFC Champions League Two campaign back on track when it hosts Bahrain’s Khalidiya at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium at 7:00 pm today in a crucial Group A encounter.

In the other group match, the UAE’s Al-Wahda will travel to Uzbekistan to face Nasaf Qarshi at 4:45 pm.

The Whites are eager to make amends for their opening-round 3-2 defeat to Al-Wahda and strengthen their chances of advancing to the next stage, with only the top two teams qualifying from the group.

Kuwait Club enters the contest buoyed by its recent domestic form. It thrashed Al-Nasr 7-1 last Friday in the fourth round of the Zain Premier League, a result that propelled it to the top of the standings with 10 points.

Coach Firas Al-Khatib will be keen to turn that momentum into a much-needed continental victory. With home advantage and fan support on its side, Kuwait Club will look to impose its game and claim all three points.

The squad combines experience with youthful talent, featuring Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, Yousif Nasser, Reda Hani, Mohammed Daham, Ali Hussein, Mesari Ghanem, Saud Al-Houshan, Abdullah Al-Qurazai, Sami Al-Sanea, Faisal Zayed and Amr Abdel-Fattah.

The team will also count on its foreign contingent, comprising Tunisia’s Yassine Khenissi, Bahrain’s Mohammed Marhoon, Congo’s Arsène “Malick” Zola, Cameroon’s Omar Gonzalez and Morocco’s Mehdi Berrahma.

Khalidiya, meanwhile, arrives seeking a positive result after opening its campaign with a 0-0 draw against Nasaf. Croatian coach Goran Tomic will hope his side can frustrate the hosts and return to Manama with points to show for their efforts.

Khalidiya is also enjoying a solid domestic campaign, sitting second in the Bahraini league with eight points from two wins and two draws, just one point behind leaders Al-Ettifaq. Its delegation arrived on Sunday ahead of today’s clash.
