ABU DHABI, Sept 17: Kuwait Club has given its players a break until the middle of next week after returning from the UAE yesterday following a 3-2 defeat to Al-Wahda in their AFC Champions League Two Group A opener at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Kuwait Club made a sensational start, racing into a 2-0 lead inside eight minutes. Taha Yassine Khenissi opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Omar Gonzalez doubled the advantage three minutes later.
Al-Wahda reduced the deficit through Moussa Diarra in the 23rd minute, before Kuwait Club was reduced to 10 men when Mohammed Marhoon was sent off in the 60th minute.
The host capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Lanny Revolez leveling in the 87th minute before Christian Benteke completed the comeback with a dramatic winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Al-Wahda leads Group A with three points, while Khalidiya and Nasaf have one point each following their goalless draw. Kuwait Club is bottom without a point.
The break will give Kuwait Club time to regroup, with the team expected to play several friendly matches before the Zain Premier League resumes in early October.
