Kuwait Club drawn in tough group for WASL finals

BEIRUT, Sept 3: Kuwait Club has been handed a challenging draw in the West Asia Super League (WASL) West Asia Basketball Championship finals, with the Kuwaiti side placed in Group A alongside Lebanon’s Al Riyadi, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad and India’s Railways.

The draw was held in Beirut, which will host the tournament from September 25 to October 1. Eight teams secured their places in the finals after a fiercely contested qualifying campaign.

The teams were divided into two seeding pots, with Al Riyadi, Al-Ittihad, AlUla, and Shahrdari in the first pot, while Kuwait, Al Arabi, Al Hikma, and Railways were placed in the second.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals before the competition culminates in the final.

Kuwait Club will enter the tournament with ambitions of challenging for the title after strengthening its roster with several key additions. American trio Shinano Onuaku, Christian Brown and Dai Dai Granet are among the new signings recruited as the club prepares for its international commitments.

The club’s management, led by basketball director and vice president Bader Al-Osaimi, is also working to further strengthen the squad with quality additions to improve Kuwait’s chances of competing for international honors, particularly the WASL West Asia title.
