KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: Kuwait Club delivered a commanding performance, defeating Al-Sahel 106-39 at the Basketball Federation Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex, during the first round of the new basketball league season. Qadsia also impressed, overpowering Al-Nasr 114-57.
The 64th edition of the Kuwaiti Basketball League (First Division) began last Thursday, with Kazma beating Al-Arabi 98-56, and Sulaibikhat edging Al-Qurain 89-86.
The league features 8 teams competing in a three-stage round-robin format, with the top four advancing to the playoffs. In the playoffs, the first-ranked team faces the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team plays the third-ranked team in a best-of-three series. The team that wins two games moves on to the final.
After the first round, Kuwait Club, Kazma, Qadsia, and Sulaibikhat secured their first two points, while Al-Arabi, Al-Qurain, Al-Nasr, and Al-Sahel received one point for the loss.
Kuwait Club is the defending champion, having won the last seven editions. At the same time, Qadsia holds the record for the most league titles, with 23, followed by Kuwait Club with 16, Kazma with 9, Al-Arabi with 8, Al-Jahra with 5, and Al-Sahel with 1.
