KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: Basketball fans turn their eyes to the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex tonight at 7:30 pm for the highly anticipated postponed league clash between Kuwait Club and Al-Qadsia, originally part of the second section of the season.
Earlier, at 5:00 pm, Kazma will take on Al-Arabi as the third section of the league gets underway.
Al-Qadsia enters the game in second place, tied with Kuwait Club at 24 points. It trails only due to a previous loss to the league leader in the first section, 82–96. Kuwait Club still has a postponed match against Kazma from section two because of its Asian League (Super League) commitments. Turkish coach Atan Baysir aims to erase the previous defeat and temporarily propel his team to the top of the standings, relying on key players Mohsen Al-Mousawi, Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi, Nawaf Al-Anzi, Abdullah Tawfiq, Rashid Al-Rabah, Ibrahim Al-Shammari, and foreign stars Gomaro Brown and Brandon Garrett.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Club is in a critical phase of its season, balancing domestic dominance with continental ambitions. It is set to face Saudi powerhouse Al-Ittihad in the Asian Championship semifinals on March 9, while continuing to lead the domestic league unbeaten. Focus and stamina will be key to managing both local and international competitions.
The last season’s treble winners (League, Cup, and Super Cup) boast a cohesive squad featuring Hamad and Mohammed Adnan, Alexander Al-Ghais, Imran Jawhar, Turki Hamoud, Saho Al-Saho, Ala Al-Hudhud, Fahad Al-Dhafiri, Aziz Ramadan, and Yousef Al-Hamdan, complemented by three foreign players: Americans Charlie Moore and Jamal Jones, and Frenchman Geoffrey Lavergeani.
In women’s basketball news, the federation confirmed that Al-Qurain, Al-Fatat, Fatayat Al-Oyoun, Salwa Al-Sabah, and the Ministry of Interior will compete in the 2025–2026 women’s league. The season will be played in two sections, with the top four teams from each advancing to the semifinals. The first round kicks off on February 27 with Al-Qurain vs Fatayat Al-Oyoun, followed by Al-Fatat vs Salwa Al-Sabah.
