KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: Kuwait Club will seek to extend its lead at the top of the Zain Premier League when it takes on Sulaibikhat at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium at 5:40 pm today in the fifth round. In the other fixture, Kazma faces Al-Jahra at Al-Tadamon Stadium at 7:55 pm.

League leader Kuwait Club, which has collected 10 points, will be eager to maintain its winning momentum and move a step closer to another league title.

Kuwait Club heads into the match buoyed by Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Bahrain’s Khalidiya in the AFC Champions League Two. The result revived its hopes of progressing to the next stage after it opened its continental campaign with a 3-2 defeat to the UAE’s Al-Wahda.

Despite the gap in quality between the two sides and Kuwait Club’s emphatic 7-1 win over Al-Nasr in the previous league round, the defending champion will be wary of underestimating its opponent. Sulaibikhat, who occupies 11th place with three points, demonstrated its ability to challenge stronger teams by holding Al-Arabi to a 3-3 draw two rounds ago.

In the other match, second-placed Kazma will look to get back to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw by Al-Arabi in the previous round. With eight points, Kazma will be keen to keep the pressure on the leaders.

Al-Jahra, meanwhile, sits eighth with four points and will be targeting their second win of the season as they look to climb the table and close the gap on the leading teams.
