Kuwait claims 11 more medals at the First Youth GCC Games

ABU DHABI, April 18, (KUNA): Kuwait’s male and female taekwondo athletes extended their winning streak at the First Youth GCC Games, securing 11 additional medals on Wednesday. With this achievement, Kuwait’s medal count reached 27, comprising eight gold, eight silver, and 11 bronze medals by the end of the second day of the competition.

Among the newly acquired medals, Abdulaziz Emad clinched a gold medal, while Othman Al-Enzi, Khaled Talal, Abdul-Rahman Al-Oseimi, Hoda Al-Amar, Fatema Hani, Shahd Al-Ajmi, and Hawra Al-Damkhi each secured silver medals. Youssef Al-Shemmeri, Rakan Al-Ajmi, and Othman Talal contributed bronze medals to Kuwait’s tally.

Sheikh Mubarak Faisal Al-Sabah, vice-president of the Kuwait Olympic Committee and head of the country’s delegation to the games, expressed satisfaction with the taekwondo team’s accomplishments, extending best wishes to the other national teams.

In a press statement, Sheikh Mubarak conveyed gratitude to the UAE for hosting and efficiently organizing the games. Hani Al-Mershad, President of the Kuwait Taekwondo Federation, lauded the national team’s performance in the initial days of the competition, highlighting the potential of taekwondo as a popular sport among Kuwaiti youth.

The First Youth GCC Games commenced yesterday and will run until May 2, featuring 210 participants from GCC member states competing across 19 disciplines.
