KUWAIT CITY, Sept 21: The Kuwait Camel Racing Club officially kicked off the local sports season (2024/2025) at the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad track, hosting the opening race. The event featured eight rounds, with camels of various age groups competing over different distances, attracting a crowd of fans and enthusiasts of this traditional sport.
Misfer Al-Ajmi, the club’s secretary, commented after the first day’s competitions, noting that this season’s races will span 24 weeks and see widespread participation from camel owners across Kuwait. He highlighted that the opening rounds displayed a strong technical level, promising an exciting season ahead. Al-Ajmi further explained that the club had thoroughly prepared for the races, ensuring the track and all facilities were ready to host the heritage sport. He also acknowledged the cooperation of the Public Authority for Sports and relevant state ministries in supporting the event's success.
He anticipated that this year’s camel racing season would be highly competitive, given the quality breeds owned by Kuwait's camel enthusiasts. Al-Ajmi wished the participants success both in local competitions and in international championships throughout the season, including the prestigious Kuwait International Championship.
In the eight-round competition, Saad Al-Rashidi’s camel Makalaf claimed first place in the main round, securing the club’s cup. The camels Brouq, Amal, Mutaib, Najla, Marou', Samha, and Khattal won the remaining rounds.
