KUWAIT CITY, July 28: The Cabinet held its meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister. Following the session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sherida Abdullah Al-Mausherji issued a statement outlining key discussions and decisions
Amir’s Contacts with Leaders
At the outset, the Cabinet reviewed the contents of a phone call received last week by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from his brother, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the call, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reassured Kuwait’s leadership and people in the wake of continued blatant Iranian attacks on Kuwaiti territory, expressing his condemnation of these aggressions and his solidarity with Kuwait. His Highness the Amir conveyed his deep thanks and appreciation to the Crown Prince, wishing him good health and well-being, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its brotherly people security, safety, progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Cabinet also noted the phone call received on Sunday by His Highness the Amir from His Excellency Andy Burnham, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, during which Burnham congratulated His Highness on his assumption of office. His Highness the Amir reciprocated his congratulations on Burnham’s appointment by His Majesty King Charles III to form His Majesty’s Government, expressing sincere thanks and appreciation and wishing the British Prime Minister good health, continued success in leading the path of development and prosperity, and further progress and advancement for the friendly British people. In addition, the Cabinet was briefed on a phone call received Tuesday by His Highness the Amir from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The two leaders reviewed the strong and distinguished brotherly relations between the two countries and peoples. President El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt stands firmly by Kuwait and supports all measures taken to preserve its security and sovereignty, praying that the Almighty protect Kuwait and its brotherly people from all harm.
Strategic Cooperation with China
The Cabinet then reviewed details of a new contract concluded between the State of Kuwait and the People’s Republic of China, described as the second cooperation agreement of its kind. The contract was signed by Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan, in the presence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Kuwait, Yang Xin.
Condemnation of Iranian Attacks
The Cabinet expressed its strongest condemnation and denunciation of the “sinful aggression” launched by Iran and its proxies against Kuwait, which last Thursday targeted the Abdali border crossing through multiple hostile drone attacks. The Council described these attacks as a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and stability, and a grave breach of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. It warned that the continuation of such blatant and repeated attacks constitutes a dangerous escalation and direct threat to regional security and stability. The Cabinet reaffirmed Kuwait’s adherence to its full and inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and its right to take all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty, protect its territory and resources, and maintain its security and stability.
Solidarity with Saudi Arabia
The Cabinet further expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of repeated attacks launched by the Houthi militia on ships in the Red Sea, the latest being an attack on a vessel belonging to a Saudi company. It described the incident as a flagrant violation of international law and a direct threat to the security and freedom of maritime navigation and the safety of international trade. The Cabinet also condemned in the strongest terms attacks that sought to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Region and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia with drones launched by Iran-affiliated militias in Iraq. It viewed these actions as a grave violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a breach of international law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817. Kuwait reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all steps taken to safeguard its security and sovereignty, stressing that the Kingdom’s security is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Condemnation of Attacks on Jordan
Finally, the Cabinet expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated drone attacks that targeted the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Tuesday, describing them as unacceptable acts that threaten Jordan’s security and regional stability (KUNA)
