KUWAIT CITY, Apr 14: The Kuwaiti Cabinet, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, where it reviewed a wide range of security, diplomatic, and regional developments affecting the country and the wider region.
The Cabinet expressed strong support for the efforts of the Ministry of Interior Kuwait to thwart any plots that threaten national security or attempt to exploit Kuwaiti territory to support terrorist entities. It was briefed by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior on details of a recently foiled plot aimed at undermining national stability and financing terrorist groups, reaffirming full government backing for continued security operations.
The Council also received a briefing from the Minister of Defense on recent military developments in the region, as well as an update on current security conditions following reported Iranian attacks. In parallel, the Foreign Minister outlined ongoing diplomatic and political efforts to monitor and respond to rapidly evolving regional and international developments.
A key focus of the meeting was the condemnation of the storming and vandalism of the Kuwaiti Consulate General in Basra. The Cabinet described the incident as a serious violation of Iraq’s international obligations and formally held the Iraqi government fully and directly responsible. It also called for immediate and decisive action to prosecute those involved, prevent recurrence, and strengthen protection for all Kuwaiti diplomatic missions in Iraq.
The Cabinet further emphasized that Kuwait is not a party to any regional or international conflict and will not allow its territory to be used for attacks against any country, stressing that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its interests and diplomatic missions in accordance with international law.
The Foreign Minister also briefed the Council on the summoning of the Iraqi Embassy Chargé d’Affaires in Kuwait and the delivery of a formal protest note regarding the incident.
In addition, the Cabinet was informed of a message sent to the Amir of Kuwait from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and reviewed discussions between the Crown Prince of Kuwait and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on regional developments and ceasefire efforts between the United States and Iran.
The Council reaffirmed Kuwait’s and Saudi Arabia’s shared commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and lasting peace in the region, while thanking countries and organizations that condemned the attack on Kuwait’s consulate in Basra.
