KUWAIT CITY, Apr 22: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has shut down a factory in Al-Ushayrija after uncovering large-scale food fraud involving adulterated seafood products.
In a joint inspection campaign, authorities seized approximately 28,900 kilograms of spoiled fish and 372 kilograms of frozen Iranian shrimp (processed and falsely marketed as fresh Saudi shrimp), along with an additional 18,204 kilograms of the same product prepared for distribution. Officials described the operation as a serious violation of food safety standards, posing potential health risks.
The authority confirmed that legal action has been taken against those responsible, stressing that such practices will be dealt with firmly under Kuwait’s regulations.
It also announced that inspection and enforcement campaigns will continue across the country as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and ensure compliance within the food sector.
