Kuwait braces for cold weather as high-pressure system continues: Meteorology

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, Dharar Al-Ali, said on Monday that Kuwait will be affected by an extension of a high-pressure system accompanied by a cold to very cold air mass.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali added that northwesterly winds are expected today and Tuesday, ranging from light to moderate in speed, becoming active at times. The winds may stir up dust in open areas and lead to higher sea waves.

He explained that maximum temperatures will range between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected between 7 and 10 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of fog forming in some coastal areas at night.

Al-Ali pointed out that from next Wednesday until Friday morning, northwesterly winds will continue, increasing the feeling of cold. Temperatures will drop noticeably, with maximums between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius and minimums between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius. Desert areas may experience subfreezing temperatures, with frost possible in agricultural and desert regions.

He added that the weather today and Tuesday will be generally warm during the day and cold at night, while from Wednesday to Friday, it will be cold to cool during the day and cold to very cold at night.
