KUWAIT CITY, July 22: In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure at Kuwait’s border crossings, Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Monday inaugurated the new Nuwaiseeb Medical Center. Described as a “qualitative leap” in health services at the nation’s entry points, the center is part of the Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to modernize and expand medical services at key border locations.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health highlighted that the newly launched Nuwaiseeb Border Health Center offers a comprehensive range of services under one roof. These include primary healthcare, emergency medical services, drug control, and public health programs — reflecting the ministry’s commitment to delivering integrated and accessible care.
The establishment of the center falls within a nationwide framework overseen by the Public Health Department. This system comprises 13 specialized health facilities strategically positioned across Kuwait’s border entry points—both land and sea—as well as its airports.
Among the land ports served are Abdali, Salmi, and Nuwaiseeb. Sea ports include Ahmadi Port (North, South, and the artificial islands), Shuwaikh, Shuaiba, Doha, and Al-Zour. At the air level, services are provided through the Airport Health Center and the passenger terminals T1 to T5.
These health centers play a vital role in maintaining the country's health security by offering preventive and emergency services, rapid response to health crises, and on-site first aid for both travelers and staff. In addition, they are engaged in continuous epidemiological surveillance, early detection of infectious diseases, and implementation of isolation protocols and safe transportation of suspected cases, all in accordance with international health regulations.
The ministry also noted the centers' contribution to maritime health oversight, including the issuance of health permits and certificates for ships and marine carriers in collaboration with relevant international bodies.
The inauguration of the Nuwaiseeb Medical Center, the ministry emphasized, is a tangible expression of its ongoing efforts to bolster healthcare infrastructure, broaden the scope of services, and enhance operational performance. These efforts ultimately aim to safeguard public health and present a modern, efficient image of Kuwait’s health system at its border crossings.
