MUSCAT, July 14: Kuwait launches its campaign at the second West Asia Men's Volleyball Championship today, facing Syria in its Group A opener at 7:30 pm at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman. The tournament runs until July 22.
The match comes after the competition’s opening day, which featured the Group B encounter between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Kuwait is in Group A alongside Syria and Qatar, with the two sides set to meet on Saturday. The national team enters the regional tournament aiming for a strong showing after a comprehensive preparation phase that included a training camp in Cairo and four friendly matches.
During the camp, the coaching staff worked on improving the team’s technical and physical levels while identifying the best lineup for the championship.
The tournament features seven teams split into two groups, with the top two sides from each group advancing to the semifinals. The remaining teams will compete in classification matches to determine final positions.
Meanwhile, Al-Qadsia has bolstered its first-team squad by signing Beninese international Daouda Yacoubou ahead of the new season.
The two-meter-tall outside hitter arrives with valuable international experience, having previously played for Qatar’s Al Sadd, Turkey’s Alanya and Slovakia’s Bratislava. His arrival is expected to add power and depth to Al-Qadsia’s lineup.
The club has also completed its volleyball department structure, appointing Hussein Al-Qabandi as general supervisor, Mohammed Al-Damkhi as team manager, and Argentine coach Humberto Alejandro as head coach. His compatriot Diego will assist him, while Luciano Jorge takes charge as team statistician.
