Kuwait Basketball Association honors 3×3 team for historic achievements

KUWAIT CITY, March 6: The President of the Kuwait Basketball Association, Dhari Burgess, along with the Secretary, Thamer Al-Shanfa, Assistant Secretary, Owaid Al-Anazi, and Mishal Muhammad, a member of the Federation’s Board of Directors, warmly welcomed the delegation of our national under-18 women’s 3×3 basketball team at Kuwait Airport’s ceremony hall. The reception followed their outstanding achievements of securing the gold medal in the Gulf Championship and a bronze medal in the Arab 3×3 Basketball Championship, which concluded in Muscat.

The event also saw the presence of Fatima Hayat, a member of the Olympic Committee and the Head of the Women’s Sports Committee, along with Ruqaya Al-Kandari, Head of the Comprehensive Clubs Department in the General Sports Authority.

Dhari Burgess, the President of the Basketball Association, emphasized that the recent success of our under-18 women’s team did not happen by chance. He highlighted the Association’s dedicated efforts in promoting women’s sports, including active participation in tournaments and the organization of a women’s league. Burgess expressed pride in the achievements, underscoring the importance of continuous efforts to realize future aspirations. He also acknowledged the abundance of young talents within the Association and pledged to refine and develop them in the upcoming period.

Burgess pointed out the significant progress achieved in global rankings, moving from 148 to 96, owing to the 3×3 basketball Committee’s efforts to organize numerous tournaments in the current season. He called upon the sports authority to enhance support for the Association’s programs and urged the Olympic Committee to extend unprecedented interest in this remarkable accomplishment.

Thamer Al-Shanfa echoed Burgess’s sentiments, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the recent achievement in basketball. He affirmed the Association’s commitment to fostering women’s sports and hinted at a broader focus on women’s sports in the coming period, fueled by the momentum of young talent.

Fatima Hayat, a member of the Olympic Committee and Head of the Women’s Sports Committee, commended the under-18 women’s basketball team’s historic victory, recognizing a new generation of champion players. She expressed hopes for more achievements in the future, acknowledging the players’ exceptional performance and the groundbreaking first-place win in the Gulf Championship in this age category.

Hayat reiterated the Olympic Committee’s unwavering support for basketball teams during the upcoming period, underscoring their commitment to nurturing and advancing the sport.
