KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: The Criminal Court, Third Circuit, has sentenced a Kuwaiti bank employee to 10 years in prison, ordered him to pay a fine and repay KD 550,000, after convicting him of misappropriating KD 183,000 from customers' funds, money laundering and forgery.

According to the case details, the defendant allegedly deceived bank customers who had obtained loans by making them believe that certain fees were payable. He then diverted the collected amounts into accounts belonging to expatriates whose expired civil ID cards he possessed.

Some account holders were reportedly outside Kuwait at the time of the transactions.

The case came to light following investigations by the State Security Service and a review conducted by the bank's Legal Department, which uncovered the alleged financial irregularities.

Following the investigation and examination of the evidence, the Criminal Court handed down the 10-year prison sentence and ordered the defendant to pay and return a total of KD 550,000.
