Kuwait authorities and volunteers join forces for environmental program
Participants in the 'Kuwait Environment: A Constant Presence' initiative

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority (EPA) on Tuesday launched the “Kuwait Environment: A Constant Presence” initiative, an environmental and scientific model promoting cooperation between government authorities, volunteers, and the community to support sustainable development.

Acting Director General of the EPA, Nouf Behbehani, said the initiative reflects an integrated effort to raise environmental awareness and encourage greening activities. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch at the Kuwaiti Air Sports Club, under the patronage of Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Behbehani noted that the project includes planting 2,000 Arak tree saplings, a native Kuwaiti species, at the club’s airport.

The planting coincided with the anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait’s first territory from the brutal Iraqi invasion, symbolizing national loyalty and the commitment to protecting the land, preserving natural resources, and promoting development. Behbehani added that the initiative aims to expand vegetation cover and instill environmental responsibility among future generations.

She praised the contributions of the Governor of Ahmadi, the Kuwait Municipality, and the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs in supporting greening projects, establishing green belts along urban areas and roads, and protecting desert and agricultural lands for sustainable use.

Governor Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah described the initiative as a reflection of national responsibility and social cooperation, highlighting the involvement of students to foster environmental education and a love for nature. He emphasized that the project seeks to increase green spaces, promote sustainability, and thanked all participating entities for their support.

Salem Al-Hai, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs, said the Authority provided the seedlings for the project and stressed its commitment to promoting agriculture, afforestation, and environmental awareness, especially among school students.

Ahmed Al-Shalahi, President of the Kuwaiti Air Sports Club, said the initiative was developed in coordination with the EPA, the Agriculture Authority, and the Kuwait Municipality, commemorating the liberation of Kuwait’s first territory. He noted that the Arak trees in the Nuwaiseeb area were planted in the shape of the word “Kuwait”, making the display visible from the air.

The initiative represents a model of environmental cooperation, combining public, private, and community efforts to preserve Kuwait’s natural resources.
