KUWAIT CITY, April 27: Kuwait's athletics team has won three more medals, consisting of a silver and two bronze, in the West Asian Championship 2023 held in Qatar. The team has accumulated a total of eight medals, including three golds, as they participate in the championship. On the second day of the event, Fajr Mandani set a new Kuwaiti record with a distance of 40.81 meters in the hammer throw competition and ranked fourth.

Falah Al-Ajmi, a member of the board of directors of the local Athletics Federation and head of the delegation, reported to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Abdullah Al-Amir won the silver medal in the decathlon, while Sultan Al-Rayes and Amal Al-Roumi won bronze medals in the long jump and 800-meter race, respectively. Al-Ajmi added that these results are in addition to the five medals Kuwait won on the first day of the championship, which includes three golds.

Yaqoub Al-Youha won the gold in the 110-meter hurdles, while Madawi Al-Shammari won the gold in the 100-meter sprint. Jassem Al-Mas, Muhammad Firas, Amal Al-Roumi, and Madawi Al-Shammari won gold in the 400-meter relay race. Abdul Rahman Al-Azmi won the silver medal in the spear competition, and Sheikha Al-Saqhan won the bronze medal in the shot put.

The championship, which continues until Saturday, includes participants from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Oman, Palestine, Yemen, and Syria, alongside host Qatar. The competitions are held in the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar Club and feature events such as long jump, shot put, triple jump (women), javelin throw, 100-meter and 800-meter races, 10,000-meter walk for men, and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
