KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Detectives in Kuwait’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate have arrested an Asian woman accused of defrauding more than 25 Kuwaiti citizens through a fake domestic worker recruitment scheme operated via Instagram.
According to a security source, the suspect used a social media account to contact individuals seeking domestic workers, sending them photos and contracts designed to give the impression that she was running a licensed recruitment business. She allegedly requested advance payments ranging between KD300 and KD500 from victims.
Authorities said the victims discovered the fraud after transferring the money, as the suspect reportedly blocked all communication and disappeared. Multiple complaints were subsequently filed at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer police station, including reports from five Kuwaiti citizens within the governorate.
The case was later referred to detectives, who coordinated with the Cybercrime Department to trace and arrest the suspect. Officers reportedly seized four mobile phones and several SIM cards believed to have been used in carrying out the scam.
During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to exploiting the high demand for domestic workers by offering prices far below market rates to lure victims into transferring money. Legal action is now underway against her.
