ABU DHABI, Oct 20 (KUNA): Kuwait’s archery team won five medals — three gold, one silver and one bronze — at the third West Asia Archery Championship in Fujairah, UAE.

Team administrator Omar Al-Shatti told KUNA that the results reflected the athletes’ strong performances throughout the competition and their ability to contend for top honors.

He dedicated the achievement to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s political leadership and the Kuwaiti people. He said the success would motivate the team to work harder and pursue further achievements in upcoming competitions.

Al-Shatti also praised the Kuwait Shooting Sport Club’s board of directors for its support and efforts to prepare the archers for the championship, expressing hope for stronger performances and more medals in future events.

In the compound men’s team event, Abdullah Mal Allah, Ahmad Al-Shatti and Bader Al-Shalahi claimed gold.

Kuwait also struck gold in the women’s recurve team event, with Suad Al-Bahar, Reem Al-Naqeeb and Nour Al-Sharhan emerging victorious.

Abdullah Mal Allah and Hanan Al-Meyas added another gold in the compound mixed team event, while Ali Al-Zaid and Reem Al-Naqeeb secured bronze in the recurve mixed team competition.

The men’s recurve team, comprising Ali Al-Zaid, Saad Al-Baloud and Abdulaziz Bushahri, claimed silver after finishing second in the team final.

Al-Shatti said Kuwait would have the opportunity to add two more gold medals on Wednesday, with Abdullah Mal Allah competing in the compound men’s individual final and Hanan Al-Meyas contesting the compound women’s individual final.

The championship began on October 15 and concludes Wednesday, featuring 72 male and female archers from Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Palestine. The competition includes recurve and compound events across individual, team, and mixed-team categories.
