Kuwait Appeals Court Upholds Prison Sentences Against Former MP Al-Mutair for Insulting Amir, Spreading Fake News

KUWAIT CITY, Sep 8: The State Security and Terrorism Crimes Chamber of Kuwait’s Court of Appeals has upheld prison sentences against former MP Mohammed Al-Mutair in cases involving insulting the Amir, spreading false news and insulting the Attorney General.

The court upheld a five-year prison sentence with hard labor against Al-Mutair on charges related to challenging the rights and authority of His Highness the Amir, attributing a statement to the Amir without special permission, and violating public morals and social norms.

The case also involved charges of disrespecting the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, insulting the President and members of the Supreme Judicial Council and members of the Public Prosecution, attempting to influence judges, and misusing social media.

The appeals court also upheld a three-year prison sentence with hard labor against Al-Mutair for spreading false news and insulting the Attorney General.

Al-Mutair had been referred to trial in connection with the charges, with the State Security Court of Appeals yesterday confirming the lower court’s rulings.
