Kuwait announces winners of the first Kuwait Media Award

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi on Monday announced the winners of the first Kuwait Media Award (Shiraa), following approval of the results by the award’s Higher Committee.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Mutairi said the Shiraa Award highlights Kuwait’s commitment to recognizing national media talent and fostering creative energies across various media fields. He noted that the initiative aims to enhance professionalism, encourage innovation, and promote responsible media messaging, with continued support from the country’s leadership.

“The award encourages media excellence and stimulates healthy competition among media professionals and institutions,” Al-Mutairi said, commending the high quality of submitted works, which demonstrated professional awareness, adaptation to technological advances, and the production of creative, high-standard content.

He added that the Shiraa Award forms part of the Ministry’s strategy to elevate media performance, improve content quality, and uphold credibility, innovation, and professional standards.

The winners will be honored on February 11 during the closing ceremony of Kuwait’s designation as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025, emphasizing the award’s symbolic importance in highlighting national media achievements.

Al-Mutairi explained that the judging process was completed in accordance with the award’s regulations by independent committees of leading media and academic experts, and confirmed that the Shiraa Award will continue to support national media and encourage creativity and excellence.

Individual category winners include: Mohammed Murad (Best Photograph), Abdullah Al-Anzi (Best Cartoon), Abdullah Buftain (Best Interviewer), Hamad Al-Shammari (Best Content Creator), Turki Al-Rashidi (Best Newspaper Column), Yousef Al-Abdullah (Best Investigative Report), and Fadda Al-Muaili (Best Critical Article).

Group awards went to: “Their Story” podcast by Uber Art Production (Best Talk Show), “Al-Sharikh Sakhr Al-Dhad” by Media Force for Artistic and Theatrical Production (Best Documentary), Diwaniyat Al-Yaqout Wal-Ansari on Radio 360 (Best Interactive Program), and Al-Quds by HA Media for Artistic Production (Best Work Using Artificial Intelligence).

Awards presented by the Higher Committee included Leading Media Personality to journalist and writer Hassan Al-Qanaei, Promising Young Media Personality to interviewer Faisal Al-Aql.
