Dr. Awadhi with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: Kuwait's Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, reaffirmed the nation's commitment to improving public health indicators and enhancing global health cooperation to elevate healthcare quality. He also underscored the significance of international coordination in tackling common health challenges.

Dr. Al-Awadhi made these remarks in a press statement following a meeting with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the high-level antimicrobial resistance discussions, held during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly's high-level week in New York.

During the talks, the two officials focused on bolstering international cooperation to implement the action plan on antimicrobial resistance. They also discussed humanitarian health challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean region, including the health situation in the Gaza Strip.

In a speech delivered at the high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance, Dr. Al-Awadhi highlighted Kuwait’s progress in developing a national action plan to combat antimicrobial resistance. He emphasized the country’s multi-sectoral approach, grounded in the “One Health” principle, and commended Kuwait’s success in integrating into the WHO’s Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS).
