KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) announced on Sunday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) of the United Arab Emirates to enhance cooperation in scientific research, space science, and the development of national capabilities in the growing space sector.

In a press statement, KFAS said the agreement aims to strengthen Kuwait’s space exploration efforts through the exchange of scientific and technical expertise with MBRSC, while supporting joint initiatives in space research, remote sensing, and advanced space applications that contribute to sustainable development.

The MoU outlines plans to co-organize workshops, seminars, and specialized training programs, as well as to develop joint technical and research projects to build a strong national foundation in space science and technology. These projects are expected to support the creation of a national database for space-related research.

KFAS noted that the signing of the MoU builds on its role in launching the Kuwait National Space Research Centre (KNSRC) last September under the patronage of His Highness the Amir. Established in cooperation with Kuwait University, KNSRC serves as a national platform for coordinating space initiatives, developing research capabilities, and empowering young talent.

The statement added that cooperation with MBRSC will open wider opportunities for partnership and allow the UAE center’s expertise to be leveraged in areas including space mission development, astronaut training, satellite operations, and the processing and application of space data for developmental purposes.

The memorandum further includes joint initiatives in innovation, data exchange, technical cooperation, and capacity-building programs targeting researchers, engineers, and students, all aligned with the national priorities of both countries.

KFAS emphasized that the partnership supports its 2025–2029 strategy, which focuses on advancing research-driven innovation and expanding opportunities for national talent, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to strengthening Kuwait’s knowledge economy.
