NEW DELHI, Nov 20: Kuwait and India have held high-level discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, the Kuwaiti Embassy in New Delhi said on Wednesday.
Kuwait’s Ambassador to India Meshal Al-Shamali met with Diwakar Nath Misra, Additional Secretary at the Indian Ministry of Finance and head of India’s Financial Action Task Force (FATF), to review ongoing efforts and explore further collaboration in tackling illicit financial activities.
In a statement, Al-Shamali said Kuwait has implemented a series of corrective measures, including legislative and institutional reforms, to strengthen its anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) frameworks in line with international standards. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment—through the Kuwait Financial Intelligence Unit (KFIU)—to supporting global initiatives aimed at addressing financial crimes that threaten both domestic and international financial systems.
Both sides highlighted the memorandum of understanding signed in July between the KFIU and India’s Financial Intelligence Unit, which facilitates the exchange of financial information in accordance with international financial mechanisms.
For his part, Misra praised Kuwait’s national efforts and its proactive approach to combating money laundering and terrorist financing, noting the country’s continued compliance with FATF standards and its contributions to international cooperation in this field.
