Kuwait, China expand ‘sustainability’ agenda

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij met with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Kuwait Yang Xin at the headquarters of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of development and sustainability. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the existing areas of collaboration related to environmental protection, energy and sustainable development. They also explored opportunities to expand cooperation on issues of mutual interest, particularly in the advancement of desalination and wastewater treatment technologies, strengthening food security amid regional developments, climate-related challenges that Kuwait is facing, and combating desertification.

They talked about the application and development of modern technologies in the agricultural sector to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Al-Fulaij proposed stronger coordination between EPA and other government entities responsible for environmental affairs, and their counterparts in the People’s Republic of China, to identify opportunities for cooperation, exchange expertise and perspectives, strengthen bilateral relations, and advance the shared interests of both countries.
