DOHA, Oct 17: Ahmed Al-Shabi, the President of the Qatar Handball Federation, expressed his admiration for the impressive technical prowess displayed by Kuwait national handball team. He highlighted how their recent achievement of a bronze medal at the Asian Games in China has reignited their competitive spirit.
Al-Shaabi voiced his confidence that Kuwait strong contenders to secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He emphasized the team's rich history and their historical dominance in previous tournaments.
He also underlined the readiness and strength of the Gulf teams participating in the Asian men's handball qualifiers for the Summer Olympics in Paris. These teams demonstrated their mettle in the China Asian Cup, with Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait securing the top three positions.
The men's Asian qualifiers for the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, "Paris 2024," will be hosted by Qatar, commencing today and continuing until October 28.
The draw for the Paris 2024 qualifiers placed Kuwait in the second group alongside Bahrain, Iran, Japan, and Kazakhstan. The first group includes Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the Emirates, India, and China.
The Kuwait will kick off their campaign against Iran, followed by a match against Japan on the 21st of this month and another against Bahrain the following day. The preliminary round will conclude on the 24th of this month with a match against Kazakhstan.
Kuwait arrived in Doha last Friday and participated in a test match against their Saudi counterparts, where they suffered a 21-28 defeat. Team director, Abdulaziz Al Zaabi, emphasized the significant learning opportunities provided by such matches against strong teams like the Saudi national team, allowing players to enhance their performance levels through valuable experiences.
