KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah patronized and attended the national flag-hoisting ceremony at Bayan Palace, marking the start of Kuwait’s national celebrations.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and President of the Court of Cassation Dr. Adel Bouresli, along with senior state officials, were also present.
A 21-gun salute was fired to welcome His Highness the Amir, who was received by members of the Army, Police, and National Guard. His Highness the Amir then raised the national flag, followed by the playing of the national anthem and a musical performance by the military band.
The annual ceremony symbolizes national pride and unity as Kuwait marks the 65th anniversary of its National Day and the 35th anniversary of Liberation Day — occasions that celebrate the nation’s rich history and progress. The event also reaffirms the leadership’s commitment to strengthening unity as the cornerstone of continued development.
Kuwait’s national flag has evolved through several stages before taking its present form, which was officially adopted under a decree issued by the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah in 1961. The flag was first raised on government buildings on November 24 of that year.
Flag-raising ceremonies are being held across Kuwait’s six governorates amid festive atmospheres, accompanied by nationwide activities and celebrations. These events reflect on Kuwait’s achievements at both regional and international levels while paying tribute to its independence and honoring the sacrifices made during the 1990 liberation, recognizing all who contributed to restoring the nation’s freedom.
