Kuwait Amir Int’l Shooting Grand Prix kicks off

KUWAIT CITY, March 20: His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Annual International Shooting Grand Prix kicked off late Sunday with the participation of more than 200 Arab and foreign shooters.

The 6-day championship includes Skeet and Trap contests and will start on Monday (tomorrow). In an opening ceremony, Farwaniyah Governor Sheikh Mishal Al-Jaber Al-Sabah expressed his pride for the inauguration of this big and dear championship that includes the most outstanding shooters across the globe. Speaking to reporters after the end of the ceremony, Sheikh Mishal extolled the distinguished organizing of the event, wishing success to all shooters. Meanwhile, Chairman of Kuwait Shooting Club Duaij Al-Otaibi thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for this annual international championship that gathers together brothers and friends across the globe into a fair sports competition.

Al-Otaibi said His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s achievements and generous support to athletes, especially the shooters, contributed greatly to overcoming difficulties and helping them achieve victory and success.

He pointed out that Kuwait’s shooting has made several accomplishments over the past period, stating that Olympic shooter Abdullah Al-Torqi won the bronze Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in addition to the gold and bronze medals won by the Kuwaiti team in the world shooting cup in Cyprus. The club has set an early ambitious plan to prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and get more qualifying cards for the event through parking part in several international championships, he said. Today’s ceremony, which featured a number of sports officials, ambassadors of the participating countries and delegations’ members, included a brief documentary on the club’s achievements of shooting.
