Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait Omar Belhadj

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait Omar Belhadj confirmed the ongoing discussions on launching a direct air route between Kuwait and Algeria soon. Belhadj made the announcement when he delivered a speech at the celebration of ‘Mujahid Day’, which falls on Aug 20.

The Embassy of Algeria organized the celebration, with members of the Algerian community in attendance. According to the Ambassador, this step will facilitate economic and tourism exchange, serve the Algerian community and investors, and open more horizons for cooperation between the two countries. He disclosed that the joint Kuwaiti-Algerian Committee is preparing for its upcoming meetings, which will be chaired by the finance ministers of both countries, to follow up the investment and trade cooperation files.

He affirmed the depth of Kuwaiti-Algerian relations, praising the honorable stances of the State of Kuwait, its leadership and people, in supporting the Algerian liberation revolution and the Algerian cause until independence. He added that he recently met with the assistant foreign minister for Arab affairs of Kuwait, during which they discussed issues of mutual concern. He commended the care that Kuwait provides to the Algerian community here. He called on members of the community to continue adhering to the laws and regulations, affirming that the embassy is keen on maintaining communication with them and working hard to meet their needs.

He then underscored the importance of ‘Mujahid Day’ in commemorating the sacrifices of the martyrs and the milestones of the struggle to regain national sovereignty. He said Aug 20 symbolizes two pivotal events in the history of the Algerian Revolution. He indicated that the North Constantine offensives of 1955 constituted a turning point that contributed to expanding the scope of armed action and raising the voice of the revolution to the international community. He added that the Soummam Conference in1956 established the organizational and political frameworks for revolutionary action, and restructured the military leadership and the ‘wilayas’ (provinces).
