KUWAIT CITY, June 8: The sixth Arab Veterans Tennis Championship officially got underway in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, with the event being organized by the Arab Tennis Federation, headed by Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber, in cooperation with the Egyptian Tennis Federation and under the sponsorship of Kuwait Airways.
The tournament has attracted 60 players from 11 Arab nations, including Kuwait, highlighting the growing popularity of veterans' tennis across the region.
Arab Tennis Federation Secretary-General Ali Al-Mutairi expressed his satisfaction with the strong participation in this year's edition, describing the championship as an important sporting and social gathering that reinforces the spirit of friendship and competition among Arab tennis players.
Speaking during the tournament draw ceremony, Al-Mutairi emphasized the federation's commitment to veterans' competitions, noting their significant sporting and social value. He praised the Egyptian Tennis Federation for its excellent preparations and organization, expressing confidence that the event will achieve outstanding technical and organizational success.
Al-Mutairi also stressed the federation's determination to maintain its competition calendar despite regional challenges, adding that the strong turnout of players reflects the trust and cooperation shared among member federations and participants.
He reaffirmed the Arab Tennis Federation's dedication to developing all its competitions, including veterans, age-group, and elite events, while extending appreciation to Kuwait Airways for its sponsorship and to the Egyptian Tennis Federation for hosting and organizing the championship.
Meanwhile, Walid Sami, Secretary-General of both the Arab and Egyptian Tennis Federations, welcomed the participating delegations, saying Egypt's hosting of the championship demonstrates the confidence it enjoys within the Arab tennis family. He added that all arrangements have been completed according to the highest standards to ensure a successful and memorable tournament.
