Kuwait Airways cancels several flights amid regional security concerns.
KUWAIT CITY, Mar 6: Kuwait Airways Chairman Abdulmohsen Al‑Faqan announced on Friday that around 2,000 requests have been received from citizens and residents currently stranded abroad seeking to return to Kuwait City, according to the airline’s statistics.
Speaking in an interview with a news channel, Al-Faqan said that about 1,600 Kuwaiti citizens are expected to travel to Saudi Arabia in the coming days and then enter Kuwait by land as part of arrangements to facilitate their return.
He added that Kuwait International Airport is fully prepared for operations but will not be used for the time being due to the current circumstances and the temporary closure of Kuwaiti airspace. Despite the disruption, Al-Faqan stressed that the national carrier has not incurred any damages or financial losses.
The chairman also noted that most passengers stranded in the transit area — estimated at around 1,200 travellers on Kuwait Airways and other airlines — have already left the country by land to airports in Saudi Arabia to continue their journeys.
Also, Kuwait Airways has issued an announcement urging passengers wishing to travel on flight KU114D from Manchester Airport to King Fahd International Airport in Dammam to confirm their bookings in advance to ensure seat availability.
The national carrier advised passengers to arrive early at Manchester Airport to help facilitate a faster and smoother travel process.
