KUWAIT AIRWAYS ACTIVATES NEW RUNWAY SAFETY SYSTEM

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 29: Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) announced on Saturday that Airbus issued a global technical circular requiring updates to several safety-related systems on the A320 model, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Official spokesperson of PACA Abdullah Al-Rajhi clarified that these updates are part of the required procedures aimed at raising the level of operational safety for this model, which is one of the most widely used aircraft in the world. Al-Rajhi added that implementing these procedures may lead to minor delays or rescheduling of some flights in the coming period. He emphasized that the safety of passengers and flight crews remains the top priority, stressing that taking such measures are an essential part of ongoing efforts to maintain the highest levels of safety and quality in the civil aviation sector. In a related development, Kuwait Airways confirmed in a statement posted on its official account on the X platform that it is carrying out the necessary software updates for its A320 aircraft as per the recommendations of the manufacturer. It explained that these updates could lead to flight delays, hence, the need for passengers to contact customer service at 171 if they are in Kuwait or +965 24345555 ext. 171 if they are outside the country or through WhatsApp number +965 1802050 for inquiries.

Moreover, Kuwait Airways has installed and started operating the Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS) on the aircraft, making it among the first airlines to operate the top safety system. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the national carrier Abdulwahab Al-Shatti confirmed the recent installation of ROPS systems, indicating that certain update procedures resulted in the temporary modification of the operating network, specifically the night and dawn flights on Saturday. He apologized for the inconvenience that the technical modifications might have caused for the passengers.
