KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: Kuwait International Airport's Terminal 1 (T1) is preparing to resume operations in November with a renewed look, marking another important step in the country's efforts to restore its aviation facilities following repeated Iranian attacks that caused extensive damage and disrupted air traffic.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah announced on October 13 that T1 would resume operations in November, ahead of Kuwait's hosting of the Saudi Football Super Cup. He said the government was also taking measures to facilitate the arrival of Saudi supporters, including expanding capacity at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing by providing 20 dedicated counters for travellers.

The terminal's difficult journey began on February 28, 2026, when drones struck Kuwait International Airport, causing material damage and minor injuries. Following repair and rehabilitation work, T1 reopened to Arab and international airlines on June 1 under a phased operating plan. However, just two days later, on June 3, another Iranian drone and missile attack struck the terminal, causing severe damage, killing one person and injuring 63 others, according to Kuwaiti authorities

The June attack forced another suspension of operations at the terminal and renewed the challenge of restoring the airport's facilities and services. The latest planned resumption is therefore more than an aviation milestone; it represents another stage in Kuwait's determination to rebuild and move forward despite the destruction caused by the conflict.

For Kuwaitis, the return of T1 carries a message far beyond the reopening of an airport terminal. It reflects the resilience of a nation that refuses to be defined by the damage inflicted upon it. The courage of its people, the dedication of its national teams and the determination to rebuild stand as a powerful reminder that Kuwait can face adversity, rise above it and move forward with dignity and confidence.
