KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: Kuwait Airport Customs officials have foiled two separate attempts to smuggle drugs into the country through Terminals 4 and 5, seizing marijuana, suspected heroin and hashish, the General Administration of Customs said.

In the first case, customs inspectors at Terminal 4 intercepted a female passenger arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after she aroused suspicion and was subjected to inspection.

Inspectors found 564 bags containing marijuana, packaged and ready for sale, with a total weight of 1.763 kilograms. The passenger was identified as a Beninese national working as a domestic worker.

In a separate incident at Terminal 5, customs officers apprehended an Indian national who was found carrying seven envelopes containing a powder suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 2 grams, along with 8 grams of hashish.

Customs officials prepared seizure reports and initiated the required legal procedures to refer the passengers and the confiscated substances to the General Administration for Drug and Alcohol Control for further action.

The General Administration of Customs said the seizures form part of its continuing efforts to prevent drug smuggling and protect Kuwait from the trafficking of narcotic substances.
