KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: The State of Kuwait has embraced an integrated national approach to disaster and risk management, grounded in early preparedness, rapid response, and sustainable recovery, Chief of the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) Major General Talal Al-Roumi affirmed on Monday.
Speaking at an event organized by KFF to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction under the theme "Financing Resilience, Not Disasters," Al-Roumi stated that Kuwait’s strategy aligns with the Sendai Framework 2015–2030 and reflects national priorities that place people at the center of disaster risk reduction efforts.
He highlighted that the policy framework stems from the outcomes of the Sixth Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction, recently hosted by Kuwait under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, which culminated in the adoption of the Kuwait Declaration.
Al-Roumi stressed that disaster prevention is not the sole responsibility of a single entity, but a shared national and humanitarian obligation that begins with the individual. He called for active collaboration among government bodies, civil society, the private sector, academic institutions, and media outlets to foster a culture of safety and awareness before disasters strike.
The event featured workshops attended by representatives of relevant government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector entities, in addition to members of the Kuwait Fire Force.
The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, observed annually on October 13, was established by the United Nations General Assembly to promote a global culture of disaster risk awareness and reduction of disaster-related losses.
