Kuwait adds gold and silver to Asian Games haul

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept 23: Kuwait added two more medals to its tally at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with the national team winning gold in team kata and silver in team skeet.

The kata team of Sayed Mohammed Al-Mousawi, Sayed Salman Al-Mousawi, and Mohammed Hussein produced a composed and technically precise performance to finish first and claim the gold medal.

The trio displayed strong synchronization and accuracy throughout the rounds, earning top honors before celebrating on the podium to the sound of the Kuwaiti national anthem.

Kuwait also secured silver in team skeet, with Abdullah Al-Rashidi, Mohammed Al-Daihani, and Mohammed Al-Awad finishing second after a closely contested competition.

The Kuwaiti trio hit 348 targets as the battle remained tight until the final rounds, securing another podium finish for Kuwait’s shooting team.

Al-Awad also competed in the individual skeet event, reaching the final rounds before his campaign ended early. Kuwait’s other participants were unable to advance.

In squash, Ammar Al-Tamimi reached the men’s singles round of 16 after edging China’s representative 3-2 in a competitive encounter. Bader Al-Maghrabi was eliminated in the round of 32 after a strong showing.

Kuwaiti athletes will compete in several sports today as the delegation looks to add to its medal tally.

In swimming, Jana Hussein and Mona Al-Farisi will compete in the women’s 50m freestyle at 4 a.m., while Mohammed Al-Zubaid and Abdulrazzaq Al-Duwaikhi will race in the men’s 50m butterfly at 4:14 a.m.

Hassan Al-Foudari and Abdulrahman Al-Manea will contest the men’s individual épée qualifiers in fencing at 4 a.m.

Al-Tamimi returns to action in the squash men’s singles round of 16 at 8:45 a.m.

In shooting, Abdullah Al-Turqi and Iman Al-Shammaa will compete in the mixed team skeet qualifiers at 4 a.m., with the final scheduled for 8:45 a.m. if they qualify.

Kuwait’s athletics campaign begins with Madawi Al-Shammari in the women’s 100m at 12:41 p.m. Issa Al-Zankawi and Abdullah Al-Zankawi will compete in the men’s discus final at 2:55 p.m., with both targeting another podium finish for Kuwait.
