Kuwait adds 1,982 buildings in 6 months as vacancy rate dips

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: Reflecting both population growth and urban expansion, statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) revealed a 0.9 percent increase in the number of buildings in Kuwait during the first half of 2025, which is an addition of 1,982 buildings compared to the end of 2024. Therefore, the total number of buildings reached 224,615 as of the end of June 2025, up from 222,633 in December 2024. The data also showed a 1.1 percent decrease in vacant buildings, dropping by 253 to 17,767, compared to 18,020 at the end of last year. These vacant buildings include 5,654 residential buildings, 50 commercial buildings, 2,823 marginal structures, 8,421 traditional buildings, and 805 buildings under construction.

In the same context, the number of buildings designated for both work and housing increased, while residential, vacant, and work-specific buildings saw a slight decline during the same period. The total number of residential buildings reached approximately 146,500, representing 65.2 percent of the country’s total buildings, marking a slight decrease of 0.07 percent compared to 146,600 buildings recorded in 2024. Statistical data also showed a decline in the number of workers’ accommodations, dropping by 29 buildings, or 0.2 percent, during the first half of the year, with the total reaching 13,821 buildings, compared to 13,850 last December.

Work buildings included 1,137 houses, 881 buildings, 294 marginal buildings, 11,504 traditional buildings, and 3 buildings under construction. Meanwhile, residential and work buildings saw a growth of 3.6 percent in the first half of 2025, with an increase of 1,413 buildings, bringing the total to 38,973, compared to 37,560 buildings in December 2024. These buildings comprised 17,056 homes, 10,431 buildings, 159 marginal buildings, 11,325 traditional buildings, and 2 buildings under construction.
