KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: In a groundbreaking milestone for global healthcare, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has announced the successful completion of the world’s first remote robotic surgery in gynecological oncology — a pioneering medical feat that reinforces Kuwait’s rising stature in health innovation and digital medicine.
Describing the achievement as an “unprecedented medical breakthrough,” the ministry confirmed in a press statement Sunday that the operation was conducted through full national collaboration between Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital and Jahra Hospital, utilizing entirely Kuwaiti expertise and infrastructure. The procedure marks the debut of a new era in robotic surgeries performed remotely and locally, led exclusively by Kuwaiti professionals.
The operations were spearheaded by the Gynecological Oncology Unit at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Wafaa Al-Duwaisan and Dr. Dalal Al-Shamaa, in close coordination with the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Jahra Hospital.
A total of three intricate surgeries were performed on Kuwaiti patients suffering from uterine cancer, using a remote robotic surgical ligation technique hailed by the ministry as a "qualitative leap in the field of modern surgery."
The ministry emphasized that this landmark procedure is not only a testament to Kuwait’s medical advancement but also represents a strategic model of national integration in smart medicine. It signals the beginning of a new phase in the localization of advanced medical technologies, strengthening Kuwait’s regional and global position in digital healthcare and intelligent surgery.
Beyond the immediate success, the ministry noted the broader implications of this achievement: paving the way for training future generations of surgeons in robotic techniques, and enhancing inter-hospital collaboration across various specialties. These efforts align with the Ministry of Health’s broader vision to modernize Kuwait’s healthcare system to meet evolving global standards.
The medical team extended heartfelt appreciation to Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and the ministry’s leadership for their steadfast support. They underscored that this historic operation is a critical step toward realizing a smart, integrated healthcare model — one that places patients at the center of care and advances science through innovation.
