KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Kuwait University (KU), through its Deanship of Student Affairs, on Wednesday launched the "Cultural Cinema" initiative in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), aiming to enhance artistic awareness and strengthen cultural identity among students.
The initiative, inaugurated under the patronage of Kuwait University President Dr. Dina Al-Mailam, seeks to reflect key cultural and artistic milestones in Kuwait’s history and marks what organizers described as a qualitative leap in student activities.
In his remarks at the launch event, Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Jassim Al-Hamdan emphasized that "Cultural Cinema" showcases significant moments in the country’s cultural evolution. He noted that the initiative represents a major development in the university’s efforts to promote cultural engagement.
Dr. Al-Hamdan also praised the partnership with NCCAL, highlighting its role in raising students’ cultural and artistic awareness. He pointed to Kuwait University's continued success in organizing academic, cultural, and artistic events and forums aimed at preserving and documenting the nation's historical and artistic legacy.
Also speaking at the event, Assistant Secretary General for the Arts Sector at NCCAL, Musaed Al-Zamel, described the initiative as a unique effort that demonstrates KU’s commitment to fostering creativity and enriching the literary and cultural environment on campus. He stressed that the initiative also plays a role in showcasing the country's artistic and cultural heritage.
The launch, held at Sabah Al-Salem University City, featured an exhibition of rare documents and photographs chronicling the history of Kuwaiti cinema and its impact on the collective cultural memory. The event also included a panel discussion on Kuwaiti cinema, as well as a visual presentation of historic and documentary films highlighting key milestones in the development of Kuwait’s pioneering artistic movement.
