KPC exempts KOC operations from unified promotion system

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17: The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has officially exempted the operations departments of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) from the unified promotion system for the oil sector, effective January 1, 2026. This decision confirms an article previously published by the daily on October 31 regarding the exemption of operations departments in oil companies. The exemption follows similar measures applied to the operations departments of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC).

A memo from KPC, dated January 8, formally notified the directors of operations departments of the decision. The exemption is being implemented first on operations departments due to their unique work requirements, following prior approval by the Labor Relations Committee at KPC. KPC is also considering exempting all employees of its subsidiaries from the unified promotion system as part of ongoing efforts to address the concerns of over 22,000 Kuwaiti citizens working in the oil sector.

The unified promotion system, which applies to positions at grade 17 and above, was initially implemented in September 2024. This new candidate evaluation mechanism replaced the former 360-degree assessment method, which has now been discontinued. The change was based on a proposal approved by the Labor Relations Committee on August 21, 2024 during meeting No. 7/2024, and included a redistribution of points for the selection criteria
