LONDON, April 27: Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles will resume public engagements next week, marking a significant step forward in his ongoing cancer treatment. While it won’t be a full return to official duties, the palace has expressed optimism about the King’s progress.

The monarch will kick off his public appearances next Tuesday with a symbolic visit to a cancer treatment center. Plans for the summer include hosting the Emperor and Empress of Japan during a state visit, with additional external engagements scheduled in the coming weeks.

According to palace sources, King Charles is “greatly encouraged” by the prospect of re-engaging with the public. However, his treatment, which commenced in February, is still ongoing, and there’s no definitive timeline for its conclusion.

In a statement released on Friday, Buckingham Palace emphasized that while doctors are pleased with the progress so far, it’s too early to determine the duration of the treatment. The King’s medical team remains optimistic about his recovery.

Although the specific type of cancer has not been disclosed, the King’s medical team has deemed him fit to resume certain public duties. However, decisions about his attendance at major events such as Trooping the Colour and Royal Ascot will be made closer to the time, based on medical advice.

Next week’s visit to the cancer treatment center will be accompanied by Queen Camilla, where the King will meet patients and staff, demonstrating his support for cancer research. This visit will mark his first official public engagement of the year.

In late June, King Charles will welcome the Emperor and Empress of Japan in what is set to be the first official state visit by Japan since 1998. While adjustments may be made to accommodate the King’s health condition, the palace remains optimistic about the visit.

Amidst the King’s health challenges and the Princess of Wales undergoing cancer treatment, the Royal Family has faced a challenging period. However, Buckingham Palace hopes that this positive development will bring some relief and draw a line under recent difficulties.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received, Buckingham Palace conveyed the King and Queen’s appreciation for the kindness and well-wishes extended to them during this trying time.
