KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: Kuwait Goan Association continued their unbeaten run edging last season’s champions Soccer Kerala 1-0 in the KIFF League organized by Kuwait Indian Football Federation and powered by Gulf Cable & Electrical Co K.S.C.P. In other matches, Indian Strikers beat United Goans Centre 2-0, FC Sparx trashed DHL FC 5-1 and Skynet Miracles FC got the better of Santos United 2-1. All matches were played at Al Bayan Grounds on Friday, Nov 11th 2016.

Kuwait Goan Association (KGA), took an early lead when the dangerous Anas Kakkaj latched on to a loose ball that the Soccer Kerala defense failed to clear, outran the entire defense and slotted in coolly past Sarath in the Kerala goal. The second half mostly belonged to Soccer Kerala with Prince, Jinto and Sebastian having their efforts saved by man of the match Martin Dias in the KGA goal and were also denied by the woodwork. With this win, KGA took a three points lead at the top of the table. Man of the match was Martin Dias of KGA and he received his award from Julio D’Souza. The match was officiated by Derrick Gomindes and he was supported by Sameer and Rafi on the lines.

Cleetus scored one in the first half and super sup Jaspreet struck the net twice in the second half as Indian Strikers got their campaign back on track and climbed to fifth position in the league table with an easy 3-0 victory over United Goans Centre (UGC). One of Kuwait’s oldest club, UGC who began the season well just could not get past the strong Strikers defense ably led by Rethish, Anthony Xavier and Vinod. Cletus of Indian Strikers was the man of the match and he received his award from Cajetan Pereira. The center referee was Victor and he was assisted by Rafi and Karim on the lines.

Mujeeb Rehman of FC Sparx announced himself with a brilliant hat trick as FC Sparx easily beat DHL FC 5-1. Missing some key players who were in Dubai to attend a company tournament, DHL FC were no match for the skillful and fluent moves of FC Sparx led by Hussain Ali who incidentally scored the other two goals. DHL did get a consolation goal towards the end of the match through the boot of Abdul Nisar. Man of the match was Mujeeb Rehman of FC Sparx and he received his award from Regi Rodrigues the veteran soccer player of Goan Overseas Association. The center referee was Edward Dias and he was assisted on the lines by Derrick and George on the lines.

In the last match of the day, referee Claytos had a hard time keeping things under control and Skynet Miracles had to use all their resources to beat Santos United 2-1 and an exciting match. Skynet Miracles S. C missing the lanky Ben in the forward line, Ramees and Basim in Midfield and Mashook the stopper in defense opened the scoring through Cristeo Colaco when his blistering free kick from outside the penalty area was too hot for Laster in the Santos goal. Diego Dias added the second one after the break to give his team a two goals cushion. However, in the second half, Santos United came back strongly with Clinton Fernandes, Marcelino, and Samual leading the attack, and when Denzil Vaz did get one back for them with about twelve minutes to go, Santos United looked dangerous and likely to score the second. However, Skynet held on doggedly to secure the three points. Cristo Colaco of Skynet Miracles S. C was the man of the match and he received the award from Raymond D’Sa the president of Goan Overseas Association. Referee Cletus officiating his first match in the KIFF league was assisted by Agnelo and Robert on the lines.
