KUWAIT CITY, May 20: The General Assembly of the Kuwait Football Association approved the federation’s new board for the 2026-2030 term, headed by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef, during meeting at the federation headquarters.
The new board includes Dayeen Al-Dayeen and Ayman Al-Husseini as vice presidents, with Dr. Ahmad Ajab, Dr. Adel Al-Adwani, Nasser Al-Adwani, and Dalal Al-Mudhaf joining as board members.
The board was endorsed after the withdrawal of candidates representing Al Qadsia and Al Arabi — Sheikh Nasser Talal Al-Adhbi and Khaled Al-Qabandi.
Al-Qadsia officially informed the federation of Al-Adhbi’s withdrawal from the race for vice president after he submitted a formal request expressing his desire not to continue. Club secretary Hassan Abu Al-Hassan stated that Al-Qadsia respected the decision and wished the federation success in the coming term.
Al-Arabi, meanwhile, confirmed that its withdrawal would continue pending the final verdict in the case filed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The club maintained its boycott of the elections, arguing that the process lacked legality despite CAS rejecting the urgent appeal against the election procedures.
The sports scene in Kuwait had witnessed significant tension in recent weeks over the legitimacy of the elections, particularly after disputes surrounding the legal term of the electoral committee responsible for reviewing the final list of candidates.
Nine clubs — Kuwait Club, Kazma, Al Sahel, Al Sulaibikhat, Al Shabab, Al Yarmouk, Al Jahra, Al Nasr, and Burgan submitted a letter to FIFA proposing temporary electoral and appeals committees.
On the other hand, Al Salmiya, Al-Qadsia, Al-Arabi, Al Fahaheel, Al Tadamon, and Al-Nasr chairman Khaled Shreida requested FIFA supervision through independent electoral and appeals committees to ensure transparency in the process.
Representatives from 10 clubs attended the assembly meeting, while Al-Qadsia, Al-Arabi, Al-Salmiya, Al-Fahaheel, and Al-Tadamon were absent. FIFA representatives Hassan Hassan and Ahmad Haraz also attended the gathering.
