KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11: Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf, Chairman of the Kuwait Football Association, revealed that the Amir Cup for the current season will be held in May, following the Eid Al-Adha holiday, while the Crown Prince Cup is scheduled for January.
Speaking on the program “Balcenter”, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf highlighted the KFA’s partnership with the Public Authority for Sports to host major sporting events and stressed that collaboration with the private sector plays a key role in developing sports in Kuwait. He encouraged private companies and government institutions to form partnerships with sports authorities to further advance the nation’s sporting landscape.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf described the upcoming French Super Cup on January 8 as a major international event expected to draw significant fan interest, particularly at Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium. He also credited Zain for its substantial role in supporting and advancing football in Kuwait.
Looking ahead, the KFA plans to expand the Premier League to 12 clubs next season. Al-Yusuf also emphasized that selection of the national team squad is fully entrusted to the coaching staff, without interference from the board.
For the Arab Cup playoff match against Mauritania on November 25, the KFA has arranged two planes to transport fans to Doha, with Zain providing a third. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf also expressed hopes for dedicated club training facilities to reduce pressure on existing stadiums, praising the Public Authority for Sports for its support in facilitating the association’s initiatives.
Chief Corporate Affairs and Relations Officer Waleed Al Khashti at Zain highlighted the success of the four-year partnership with the KFA through the Zain League, noting a “significant boost” in the league’s quality. He described the Gulf Zain 26 tournament as one of the best sporting events hosted in Kuwait, attracting large crowds, and confirmed that new collaborations and initiatives are planned with the FA in the near future.
