JEDDAH, Sept. 19: Kuwait’s national team will return to training today at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s facilities in Jeddah as preparations continue for Gulf Cup 27, which kicks off on September 23 and runs through October 6.
Head coach Hélio Sousa gave the players a day off yesterday following Friday’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Yemen. Mohammed Daham scored Kuwait’s goal, while Ahmed Maher and Omar Al-Dahi were on target for Yemen.
The friendly allowed Sousa to assess his players’ readiness and fitness levels ahead of the tournament. Yousif Nasser and Mohsen Falah missed the Yemen match after experiencing muscle discomfort but are expected to rejoin the squad in today’s training session.
Kuwait has been drawn in Group A with host Saudi Arabia, Oman and Iraq. The Blue team will face Saudi Arabia in its opening match on September 23, meet Iraq on September 26, and complete the group stage against Oman on September 29. Group B features Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, and Yemen.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Football Association President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef praised the support provided by Zain Kuwait and its Vice Chairman and Group CEO, Bader Al-Kharafi, to Kuwaiti sport and the KFA.
Sheikh Al-Yousef said the KFA and Zain had arranged two flights to take Kuwait fans to Jeddah for the national team’s opening match against Saudi Arabia. The package includes return airfare, match tickets, and transportation at subsidized rates.
He also praised Zain for its continued support of Kuwaiti sport, noting that the company has consistently backed major sporting events and initiatives.
The KFA announced that registration for fans wishing to attend the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia match will open on Sunday through its website. The two flights will accommodate up to 450 fans, with registration requirements and conditions to be announced.
The package is priced at KD 80 for business class and KD 40 for economy class, covering return flights, match tickets, and transportation. The KFA will coordinate with fans in Jeddah to arrange the distribution of the match tickets.
