LOS ANGELES, Nov 28, (Agencies): Kevin Bacon's introduction to New York City was marked by a modest $150-a-month budget for apartment living. Recounting his early days on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 65-year-old actor shared, "I don't know how I got the math on that, but that's what I had decided." His quest for affordable housing led him to respond to an ad in the Village Voice, which promised a residence for artists, actors, and musicians.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Bacon detailed his transition to the city, revealing that after crashing on his sister's couch for four months, he stumbled upon what he described as a "flophouse" advertised in the Village Voice. Despite the promise of a haven for artists, the reality fell short. "I guess there were some artists there, but not a lot," he admitted.
Facing the challenge of no single-room apartments, Bacon ended up with a roommate he met at the rental office. Their cohabitation lasted for four years, and Bacon recently had lunch with him. Describing his roommate as a classical pianist who worked nights at the Copacabana, Bacon reflected on the unique experience of hearing live music at home, noting that it was "really cool."
Kelly Clarkson chimed in, sharing her own experience of living with a stranger, emphasizing the often "crazy" living situations many in the entertainment industry encounter. "You really got to want your dream," Clarkson remarked, a sentiment Bacon echoed, saying, "you got to have the hunger."
