KUWAIT CITY, Aug 23: The Kerala Press Club Kuwait (KPC), a collective of media professionals in Kuwait, organised ‘Onam Celebration 2026’ with a wide range of cultural and entertainment programmes. Members of the Press Club and their families participated in the celebrations held at the Kohinoor Auditorium, Fahaheel.

KPC President T. V. Hikmath presided over the function, which was inaugurated by Ravi Ayanoli, Principal of Delhi Public School (DPS), Fahaheel, by lighting the traditional ceremonial lamp. In his inaugural address, Ravi Ayanoli highlighted the important role such community gatherings play in preserving the love, traditions and cultural heritage of Kerala among the expatriate community.

He observed that the present generation is living in an era where even traditional legends and narratives are changing. Instead of learning about their heritage from parents and elders, the younger generation increasingly turns to modern technologies such as artificial intelligence. He stressed the need to preserve and strengthen traditions such as Onam, which help the younger generation remain connected to their cultural roots.

Programme Convener Johnly Thundiyil delivered felicitations. KPC General Secretary Anil P. Alex presented a memento to the chief guest, Ravi Ayanoli.

The venue was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s cultural traditions, with a distinctly Malayali Onam ambience. The festivities commenced with the ceremonial arrival of Maveli, symbolising the spirit of Onam.

Following the inauguration, a classical dance performance by Brinda Krishnan and a musical programme featuring popular singers Rafi Kallayi and Merin added energy and colour to the celebrations. Various competitions were organised for both adults and children, followed by a sumptuous traditional Onam Sadhya.

A special highlight of the programme was Krishnan Kadalundi’s humorous presentation of Kunchan Nambiar’s ‘Muktakam’, creatively presented through the use of literal and contrasting meanings of words, which provided a unique and entertaining experience for the audience.

The singers were also presented with mementos from the Kerala Press Club Kuwait. Programme Joint Conveners Nijas Kasim and Sreejith coordinated the various activities.

A traditional and elaborate Onam Sadhya was also arranged as part of the celebrations, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.

KPC General Secretary Anil P. Alex welcomed the gathering, while Treasurer Abdul Razak Kummaranelloor proposed the vote of thanks.
